I so enjoyed our first Saturday as a vendor at the Downtown Farmer's Market in Waxahachie. I met business owners who were extremely helpful and highly creative. Because of that, I am thinking of asking them if I can learn a little bit of the story behind their businesses and write a blog series introducing them individually. When we take the time to learn the "why" behind the local business in our area, we end up meeting the most amazing people who care deeply about creating something of value for others.
In doing a bit of research, I looked up the history of the Farmer's Market in Waxahahie. One resource says the first market in Hachie was held in the 1820's. Of course, Waxahachie had not been established as a city as of that date. That happened in 1850. But, back then, farmers were instrumental in helping cities grow as they would set up in rural areas so that their outlying neighbors had access to fresh produce. Towns, communities, and cities often were built up around these make-shift markets.
Our current version of the Downtown Farmer's Market in Waxahachie was established in 2003. And although I do not have an updated count of vendors who are present on site, I can tell you that it is a thriving market with a variety of produce, services, and products. This is especially true as we head into the summer session.
I think what I most enjoyed was the openness of the conversations I had with people. I was able to share, on more than one occasion, my own heart for helping people overcome chronic stress related issues. I left encouraged that people needed to hear the story behind Jubilee Seasons. And that in being present and sharing the "why" behind my own company, those who could relate might find the support they needed.
In a culture where isolation seems to be growing, finding the right support system is vital. Intentionally getting involved in our communities may bring the connections and health we need to return to a more simpler time where people showed kindness and looked after one another. And with that thought, it's good to know that the Downtown Farmer's Market in Waxahachie is still bringing people together after all these years.
Jubilee Seasons will be at the Market every Saturday in March (2025) from 9am to noon.
And then, the 2nd and 4th Saturdays throughout the summer session beginning in April. Come see us!
