A Rhythm of Renewal for ADHD Adults
Updated: Sep 27

I am not an expert on ADHD. But, I have spent a lifetime dealing with it's effects. And, I don't mean simply not being able to pay attention. I actually hyperfocus really well. What I have dealt with is the severe rejection sensitivity, perfectionism, seasons of deep focus and creativity, followed by long bouts of severe burnout, being completely misunderstood but not having the proper framework to explain myself correctly, and subsequently, needing more autonomy than most just to be able to show up in the world.
If you struggle with ADHD, you may know exactly what I mean. If you don't, you may think I sound a bit unwilling to cooperate with others.
However, that is simply not the case. Truthfully, I've tried to be a blessing where ever I have found myself. I just can no longer abandon my own health needs in order to do so. It's been a long journey, but I can remember in my 30s asking Jesus to not only heal me, but show me the root cause of being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Now I know that ADHD and fibromyalgia share the same neuroinflammatory pathways. And, that doctors who specialize in fibromyalgia suggest that their patients also get tested for ADHD. This means, in order to manage my physical health, I need to know what my limits are and not push beyond them.
I say all of these things because I want you to understand the real challenges that ADHD can bring. But, after years of walking with Jesus and allowing Him to bring healing and grace into every unique season I have walked through, I also want to encourage others who may find themselves navigating their own journey.
I think like most things, we, as people in general, try to flatten extremely multi-layered issues that we simply do not understand so that we can "fix" them. People with ADHD have been given plenty of "quick fix" answers and know how lonely and frustrating that can be. So, if you live with a brain that seems to fight against you, odds are, you stopped trying to explain yourself a long time ago. It just seemed safer...
That is why I created this guide. It's not another ADHD productivity hack. It's simply an encouraging companion to help you discover the rhythms that work best for you.
Everyone needs encouragement. Especially those who feel as though they do not fit in the world. But, I want to encourage you that your Heavenly Father knows you–He knows everything about you. He also wants to partner with you to bring about His purposes. The gifts that you have been given, the perspective you have, and the testimony of His faithfulness through it all are what He can use to help others. I am a firm believer that we "comfort others with the comfort we have been given." And when we do that, we fulfill the law of the New Covenant to love one another. That means you do not have to be anyone other than your redeemed self to allow God to use you to help someone else. And when that becomes our focus, we often find the self-acceptance we need as well.
This guide comes as a free download. It is not a deep dive into ADHD. It is just a tool to help you navigate a day that can easily get hijacked at any given moment (iykyk).
And again, I am not an expert in ADHD. This resource offers general education and spiritual encouragement. It is not medical care, nor should it be used as a substitute for individualized diagnosis or treatment. It is a simple companion guide written by a friend who is sharing some things she has learned along the way.
If this is speaking your language, you may use this link to download A Rhythm of Renewal (or find other free resources that help steward your health):
Supporting someone you love with ADHD is not always easy either. I hope this offers a bit of encouragement for you as well.
