Make Your Own Lavender Oil

There are several ways to make your own essential oils. Distilling is the most common when it comes to making large batches. But, if you own a lavender plant, you can make a small batch of oil through a process known as infusion. Not all plants work well using this method, but lavender does, and it's a great way to get started.
First, you want to make sure not to use chemicals on your lavender plant, or in the soil. Using organic planting and cultivating solutions ensures that your essential oil will give you its maximum health benefits.
Once you have a vibrant, healthy, organic lavender plant, here are your next steps:
Harvest your lavender flowers just before the buds begin to bloom. You want to cut the stems above the woody part and leave the green to continue to grow. Using natural twine (again, think organic) bundle your lavender cuttings together in small batches.
Hang the lavender bunches in a cool, airy room to dry. It can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month to get them completely dry (depending on your environment). Check to see if they are dry by breaking one of the stems. If they bend, they are not ready. Once the lavender is completely dry, simply shake off the buds into a clean glass container (no plastic), filling it about 3/4 full. Your dried lavender buds should fall off the stems easily.
Choose the carrier oil that is most beneficial for you. My skin reacts well to almond oil (I use it as a natural moisturizer). But, olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, and grapeseed oil are also great options.
Pour your preferred carrier oil over the dried lavender, filling your glass container. Place a lid securely on top and set it in a sunny window. Leave it in the sun for 2 to 3 weeks, picking it up and gently shaking it on occasion.
Once you achieve yur desired strength, use a cheesecloth to strain your oil. You can squeeze the lavender so that it releases what it holds.
Your last step is to transfer your infused oil into amber glass bottles and store in a cool, dark place (such as a cabinet). Then enjoy the oil you made!
I am making my own oil creations this month starting with a magnesium roll-on infused with lavender, lemon balm, and black seed oil. Once this product is ready, I will add a magnesium balm to the list. Look for these to be available in the next few weeks!
